    tyler3 - wow that is interesting...he would be a good fit in that offense and vice versa...Leesville has also had some recent grads go to State...and Coach Rimpf from Britt is a 2003 grad and went to play at ECU...

    Funny how Indy's run ended after Knott's left - he must have taken his recruiting database with him to South Carolina...possibly...they lost their win streak, then their NC win streak (lost to Butler), then the state title all in 2007...and haven't been the same since...

    Saw Butler beat WFR - Ferguson was a starter then when he and LeMay were both sophomores...and LeMay's younger brother is making waves as a freshman RB...plus they've got something to prove after last year...and Ferguson lost about 6 weeks with a broken thumb this year...

    Good stats ferguson for butler is 40-2 as a three year start and the most of the seniors on this team has only lost 2 games with a record of something like 55-2

    NB was 5-6 in 2009. Finally let Josh Taylor start and the rest is history. Record would of been different if he was able to take over the reigns at the beginning of the season. I think he has I believe 4 or 5 losses in his 3 1/2 years as a starter. Not to shabby.

    Yeah he's a pretty special player...his brother Austin was something too, before he played qb he was a return man a WO in the spread he's very elusive in the open field also...with him at QB and Braxton at RB/WR they drove people crazy last year - the 67-58 Wakefield game last year it seemed like one or the other was scoring every time they touched the ball, breaking ankles all over the field ..good kids too...

    Not at this time - all kinds of rumors and I can't really tell you definite info only what I heard...SC was supposed to be looking and Alabama was supposed to be repped at the Wakefield game (if so they picked a good one since he had 5 TDs before half time)Ohio State and some others...His brother is at ECU, but I don't think they will make the cut... things can get out of hand in the rumor mill, but I think that info I gave you is fairly accurate...

    BattlingBishop 5 just jerkin yer chain big guy...good luck next week...and yeah it would be nice to see Leesville play a tougher out of conference schedule...but as everyone knows the players can only line up against whoever the ADs put in front of them...and yeah we didn't start this thread but it gets a little tiring to hear the lecturing from the coast and other 1 year dynasties about how poor the football is in Wake County - Garner excepted of course because they have established a track record of success...it doesn't happen over night...and it's cyclical even New Bern was 5-6 a couple of years ago...it happens...

    @teammugs,

    In case you didn' notice, big guy, we didn't start the thread. Just a l'il fyi. As for the LR game, it was 35 - 7 at one point, as you pointed out, & GT won by 21...just saying. Not getting bent out of shape at all. GT advanced to the Eastern Finals again. Why would I be mad?

  • teammugs Nov 17, 2012
    Sports Legend

    BattlingBishop 5 - really? you don't consider 42-35 with 7 minutes to go close?...From the time Leesville went down 35-7 they had to outscore Garner 28-7 to get that way...to their credit Garner pulled away to seal the deal, but it did get a little quiet for a time in the 2nd half...and Yes Scotland has along tradition of finishing 2nd in the conference to Richmond County...and the coast of NC is famous nationally for inventing the game of football...get over yourselves - it's 2012 and things are changing...and has anyone put out an APB for dfmlythr...I'm staring to get worried...and Britt hung 56 on RC AT RC...say what you want but that is an accomplishment and RC turned the ball over 4 times against SC and still only lost by 7 to Scotland...and before you get bent out of shape BattlingBishop 5...Leesville's band was pretty good and up until half time that was the only good thing that came out of LRHS...Garner made it look easy...

    @Tyler

    Get that but according to setchamps, Garner's schedule is weak & the main reason they haven't won more titles....I think (there is the contradiction). Therefore, according to setchamp's logic, due to NB's much stronger schedule, they should clearly have more state titles as that strong schedule should have prepared them for teams like Indy. Just using setchamp's logic, that's all.

    "just stating the facts my friend......as good as garner is every year they should be playing for the title more often and winning....." setchamps

    ....followed by

    "idc if they roll thru the schedule when it comes playoff time they get exposed by a much better team because they havent played anybody like that.." setchamps

    Let's study this one a spell. On the one hand, you're telling us that, as good as Garner is, they should be winning more titles. Then you go on to post that, come playoff time, they get exposed by a "much better team", etc. Looks like a contradiction to me, friend.

  • piratefball172 Nov 17, 2012

    Britt has only been around since 2000 and already has more Eastern championships, a western championship, and more state title game appearances than a lot of 4A teams. It may be brief, but it is a storied tradition.

  • Garneralum03 Nov 17, 2012

    I think there is a misconception going on here lately. Everyone still thinks Raleigh area football is the same as it was 10 years ago. The Triangle area is a regular in the Eastern Championship and they do not get blown out.

    Like it was said earlier, it is a mute point. The system is what it is. What would happen if they went to 5 classes. Would you still say New Bern and Scotland could beat the 5A schools?

    Enjoy your seasons and teams in the classifications they are in and stop worrying about who you play and who you don't play. A state championship is a state championship.

    Just as a side note, I don't see New Bern reaching out to play Garner anymore. They had a series a few years ago and it was always a close game. Scotland is the same way. Just about every Scotland county fan on here thinks they can beat the Atlanta Falcons, and even worse, they think they have something to do with it. WAKE UP! Your glory days are over and the boys that are out practicing every night since July are the ones getting it done. Not you on the message board.

    Bishop..

    Yes we do have one title. Ran into Independence several times in a row, they were unbeatable. Reached the East finals now 3 times in a row. Looking forward to adding another this year. NB plays a tough schedule year and year out and is competitive every single year, rarely any down years.

    Britt has only been around since 2000. A few years, sure, but i would not call that a "storied" tradition. However, have always had darn good football teams.

    out of the 10 regular season games new bern played there was 4 top 10 teams(AP) at the time....hillside 4, new hanover 6, hoggard 10, havelock 1(3A). we have only one 4A team within 2 hrs of us. have to play whats around cuz of travel restraints....

  • 3forme Nov 17, 2012

    (setchamps99) As far as the weak schedule goes for the raleigh teams not much can be said about New Bern's schedule either( havelock new hanover,laney and hillside were the best) 2 3a schools with 8-14 record and no one else in 4a with a .500 record. We all have to play the teams on our schedule so lets not be so critical of scheduling..All the teams are good that have survived up to now and we can only wish for the 4aa-4a etc. matchups..Good luck to all..

    Scotland won the first game decisive, but it would not be that easy the second time around. We could compare stats all day, but with high school kids emotions are everything. Which team hung 56 on Richmond? Britt...Which team didn't let Richmond hang 50 on them? Scotland

    You never ever know

    scotland beat britt with ease and garner doesnt play any top notch competiiton out of the raleigh area....thats garners problen every year. they beat up these weak raleigh schools and them bam..... leesville had a great season but didnt play any quality non raleigh schools...im sure new bern and scotland could both compete in 4AA. idk if butler or any other west schools would win or lose....i wish there could be a final after the state championship between big and small 4A all the down to 1A. then crown an overall champion. i mean that would be the best way to decide because the pods... i can say this that i think north carolina plays some of the best high school football in the nation....Go Bears

    Scotland looked like the most dominate team in the entire state last year, regardless of what level they would have played at. However, this year I am not sure I could say the same. In the East Scotland and New Bern could have very well possibly have made it to the East Championship, although Garner, I believe is overall better and more balanced than what they were last year so they definitely belong among the elite. What I don't know is if Scotland or New Bern could handle the Western part of the state this year like Scotland would have last year. Therefore, it is probably in both teams best interest this year to be in the 4A bracket. Much better chance of bringing home a ring instead of just possibly, and I say possible, an East championship b/c Garner and Britt are no pushovers by any stretch of the imagination.
