Just like my Cleveland last year, Orange ran into buzzsaw in Havelock...

Great year by the Panthers....tried to tell ya - but Havelock is playing on a different level than any other 3A team in the state (and probably as good or better than most 4A teams). It hasn't always been like that. Havelock does have a winning tradition - but actually, w/the exception of 1971 when they ran the table undefeated, a so-so playoff record until the past 4 years.

Coach Bryant came in and took a program that had fallen on hard times and turned it around into something truly special. He was "Coach of the Year" last year for the whole state and that speaks to how well he knows how to develop a very strong football team.

Havelock will probably remain a very strong program as long as Bryant hangs around. But I suspect he will bombarded by very enticing offers. Let's see what happens.

Congrats Orange High School on a good season, 2nd toughest defense we have seen this year!!

Orange will have to play lights out to win this game tonight. They will have to find the defensive rythem they had earlier this year when they were only allowing 9.0 ppg and the offense will have to click. The QB Motley has been stepping up big as of late and will have to continue to do so tonight. But the big key is that pettiford will have to be the work horse he was early in the season and they will have to get a few big runs by the pittman brothers as well.

Orange surprised me this year. They have done really good things and I can't take anything away from them. Their hard work paid off.

I hear you setchamps. I'll be pulling for New Bern as well. I'll be having Thanksgiving in New Bern with my sis-in-law who went to NBHS

Orange and panthers doesn't flow well together but not sure what team name would be better. I like how Fuquay goes by the Orange Crush. Any time a game involves teenagers you never know what may happen. It boils down to match ups. Good luck orange!

craven county teams fishin wolf.......everybody in new bern is pulling for havelock..why wouldnt they??? they hate each other one game out of the year besides that we want them to win.. when havelock wins friday nite i can promise you that there will a bunch of bear fans pulling for the in winston. hopefully my bears will pull out a victory and it will be two craven county teams 15 minutes apart playing for there respected championship. good luck to the rams friday nite

cleveland - i don't think the reference to "little rams" from letsgonecks that tyler3 responded to had anything to do with the size of the team. go back and read his comment

I agree - Havelock isn't the biggest team and speed and execution are their biggest assets. West Rowan was much bigger than them in the finals last year but they didn't know how to react to the speed and they were the 3-time defending state champs.

I think there have only been 2 posts on this whole thread from Havelock fans (this would be the 3rd) so it has been interesting to watch New Bern fans (that don't really like Havelock) defend the team against Orange fans. That said the game is played on the field so we'll see on Friday.

Well, Tyler3. Cleveland had nothing but Jrs and Soph. last year and we were bigger than Havelock. It's their SPEEEEED, Aggressiveness and precision that separates them. I'm telling ya the only team up here that could maybe give them a game is Garner. I hope Orange can have a great game, remember they just beat the team that was the last one to beat Havelock(besides NB), in fact E.Alamance beat them two years in a row @ Havelock(2009&2010) you just never know.

Havelock's lone loss was to New Bern. Nothing against the Orange. I would pick Havelock against any school in 3A. They are way too talented and well coached to lose this far in the playoffs. Havelock rolls in this one.

I starting to think some of you guys are under the influence with your sore predictions. News flash Orange plays defense. Has havelock competition been that weak? My question to all you Ms Cleo predictors is have you seen Orange County play? I already know the answer to my question. I'm threw typing. All I can say come out and watch these young men from Orange county compete at the highest level. They have a goal and havelock in the way. To the Orange players you see they don't respect you. Respect is earned not given. Have a good week of practice and earn your respect and stay off this site. I'm through for the week. Y'all gentlemen have a great week

Gww3001 all they are gonna say is Havelock is like the university of Alabama. They are bigger, stronger, faster, and can't be beat. They say they can beat some D3 colleges because they have more D1 recruits. Lol

You better care how hungry they are promiss you that!!!Bring that attitude on the football feild and your little rams will get there feeling hurt!!!

As a fan that has not seen Havelock but does know what Orange has done and can do how about filling us armchair quarterbacks in on the real part of the game and not the talking side of things. What makes this team so dominate, I had guy that coached down that way a couple of years ago tell me about their speed on defense and I see speed all across the board. But what about the OL and DL, are they the big bruisers that make the plays for the skilled guys or are the backs and DB/backers making the plays for themselves? Can't remember who they lost to this year but maybe someone from that team can fill us in.

  • jmbsr1 Nov 18, 2012

D1 commits has nothing to do with Friday's game. Its teams with more D1 recruits watching other teams play and lost to teams with less D1 offers. Orange schedule was hands down better than Havelocks. If you are expecting orange to get blown out you haven't seen or don't know anything about them. Im think Havelock has a very good team. But I know Orange has a good group. I've been saying this all offseason. These young men believe in themselves. They say Havelock the best and the young men of Orange want the challenge. They've believe in themselves and their coaches.

I hear about all of the commitments to these D1 schools is great. It dosen't mean a thing come Friday night. Lets play the game and see what the outcome will be.

I'm sure Orange has a good team or they wouldn't be in the playoffs at this point. I've seen Havelock though and they aren't your normal 3A team. The speed is off the charts. 2 South Carolina commits as well as 2 ECU commits in the Senior class and none of those guys are their best player IMO (Scott the JR RB is).

Anyway - I will be at the game as well - I predict a Havelock victory but the game is played on the field so we'll see.

Havelock is overranked? They have lost one game in the past 2 years. Who would you put before them? They have several players committed to SEC teams and more to come in the next year. You will see Friday night why they are where they are.

You guys will be in for a rude awakening... it might be over in the 1st quarter... havelock strikes fast, early and often.. you guys are right about there ages, but its the talent and the amount of it there is that will be the difference maker...

@jamalburto I agree with you Orange will have to play great to have a chance but havelock better not underestimate orange or might scrap out a win.

  • football74 Nov 18, 2012

Orange has a better shot than people think. Havelock is overconfident and over ranked since they have not played as hard a schedule as Orange. Havelock is still a good team but I think orange will surprise them with their physicality

  • csj2 Nov 18, 2012

I understand all the talk about Havelock, their speed, defense, etc etc. A great team for sure and likely the repeating state champion. But some people talk like Orange should not even get on the bus to go down to face them. I wouldn't bet on Orange to win, but those boys have earned the shot to go down there and give it their all. The only way that have "zero chance" is if they don't take the trip down there! Good luck to the Panthers--believe in yourselves and leave it all on the field.

Havelock is a team of 14-18 y/o young men. Orange is a team of 14 -18y/o young men. Truth be told Orange will be the second best team Havelock has played. Orange has played a tougher schedule than Havelock. Its funny how people say a team doesn't have a chance when they haven't seen them. Lol
Friday night we will see who represents the east in the state title game. I will be in Havelock with my Orange and Black on. GO PANTHERS!!!!!

Talking about season ending game and last game for seniors that will happen. Remember that two teams are playing and one team will win. It maybe Havelock or it maybe Orange will not know until Friday night. I hear a lot of barking coming from the front porch and not the front yard. Best wishes for both teams.

  • clevelandfb65 Nov 17, 2012

Can Havelock get beat YES, maybe a good team can get beat 'em but Havelock is like nothing I've ever seen. You can coach'em up all you can but you can't simulate the speed that Havelock has, I can tell ya but you have to see it in person. You have to make sure to wrap up and hit'em at the line if not they'll run all over the field. Defensively they hit hard and are very good against the run.

  • scousler Nov 17, 2012

Cudos to the Panthers for making it this far and I hope their fan base turns out in big numbers for the Eastern Regional 3A Championship game in the little service town called Havelock. The NB fans hate Havelock probably more than any team in the state, yet they know a good team when they see one.

It will be nice to see a team wearing orange uniforms - but the color they will remember most is the black of the Havelock Rams.

Havelock is currently playing football at the highest level there is in the state. Match them against the top 10 4AA, 4A, 3AA teams and Havelock wins more then half of those games and the ones they lose are very close.

Does Orange have a chance? Not really, but I know they'll show up and hopefully conduct themselves well and compete. Win or lose both teams deserve praise for a very good season.

Oh they can be beat. It just takes a team like New Bern to do it. Only beat them by one and held them to the lowest point total of the year 33!! It will take the perfect storm for Orange to beat them and it is going to take more than heart.

  • letsgonecks Nov 17, 2012

Sick and tired of you people who think Havelock can't be beat yes i understand they are a good team but they have a good team coming with boys who have more heart than any other team in the state!!! So we will see what happened when the smoke clears!!! GO PANTHERS!!!

That maybe true but they will not be intimidated nor will turn tale and run. Being an underdog is great because you have nothing to lose but everything to gain. Win lose or draw you best believe the that everyone will see a great game and that Havelock was in a great battle.
