RE: 4-AA East #1 Seed?
For starters, all this garbage about who plays in a tougher conference is apples and oranges. No one knows the answer to that question. The only answers you could get would be come playoff time.
RE: 4-AA East #1 Seed?
I agree, conference doesnt matter all too much
RE: 4-AA East #1 Seed?
That's what I was saying. All I ever hear get argued for Richmond and Scotland is that they play tougher teams. I think that is based on history and not the present. Last year is proof positive. I think Triangle area football has got a lot better. Bottom line to my opinion is, I think the team coming out of the Garner/Leesville/Middle Creek bracket has an advsntage playing tougher teams to get there. I am not a fan of the pod arguement that teams are being punished for good seasons by the pod system. To me, you are going to have to beat those teams anyway so why does it matter when it is.
RE: 4-AA East #1 Seed?
Garneralum03 - yeah while Garner plays from the comfort of Trojan stadium...seeding and brackets matter if for nothing else - that...the travel garbage has been refuted by teams during the regular season...what round was it that New Bern and Hillside played?...and teams out west travel anyway - the mileage and other irrelevant nonsense set up by the NCHSAA has no basis in reality...which isn't surprising when dealing with bureaucrats..
RE: 4-AA East #1 Seed?
I think its more or less for 1A and 2A classifications and the NCHSAA had to do it across the board. Plus the business end, they make more at the gate if teams close by play in the playoffs. More fans are apt to travel 20 mins than 2 hours. Unfortunately the almighty dollar will always rule, so it won't change.
I do think there should be a better way than a draw to break ties. Leesville got the shaft, technically they had a better record than Middle Creek but got a lower seed. Sometimes I wonder whether these draws actually happen.
RE: 4-AA East #1 Seed?
You may say playing tough teams you get battle tested but which would you rather have. Games where you can rest starters at the half or games whereyou have to grind it out week in and week out. The East beats each other and then they are worn down. If anything Middle Creek because of their loss should have gone Mideast and Jack Britt should have gone East to balance it out. I don't like the trowing away of a loss. you play 11 games then if you lose oh well that is a chance you take. I am pretty sure that if Nc State would get a better bowl they would throw the Tenn Game away or if Duke could they would throw away the stanford game. Why play if it won't count.
RE: 4-AA East #1 Seed?
Aii, that's a great point and I will agree with you on that one. Why would you get to toss out a non conference loss? I know it's the system in which we live under, the teams get a choice in the new system, to get a bye week or play 11 games. Most choose to play 11, some only play 10, the teams playing 10 don't get to throw a loss out. Seedings should be by your total record. But who am? I don' get a say in the matter.
RE: 4-AA East #1 Seed?
The pod system may be needed for the lower classifications. It is not needed in 3A and certainly not in 4A. All they have done is turned football playoffs into basically conference tournaments.
They also need to look at the method of dropping games. They do this to encourage teams to play an endowment game (making money for the NCHSAA). However, some teams play 3 non-conference games while others play at least 5-6. The ones with fewer conference members not only have an easier route to finishing in the top 3, they also get more choice of games to drop. Split conferences make the whole system even worse---teams can get into the playoffs with only one or two wins--and can even host with a couple of victories.
This system needs a lot of work, starting with getting rid of the Pod for 3A and 4A--which is what the coaches requested.
