Havelock is the only Team reaaly that new Bern has to worry about this year and last. It is a small school but has an awesome team.

"Don't forget that fact that NB was up 34-13 going into 4th quarter and put in scrubs and sat on the ball. "

You can believe that if you think it makes you feel better about NB, truth is the NB coach never said he did that after the game. Did they lose some focus? Perhaps - but coaches don't start putting their scrubs in until mid-season blowouts - they want the starters to play as much as possible early on.

Not taking away anything from NB or making excuses for Havelock, but it was a rainy, muddy field and Havelock's speed might've been somewhat negated until they learned how to adapt.

To keep saying that Havelock only caught up to NB because of mass subs is not true and just shows your insecurity about winning by only 1 point against a team smaller in size and number to you.

Don't forget that fact that NB was up 34-13 going into 4th quarter and put in scrubs and sat on the ball. People tend to forget that. Havelock wins big no matter who is behind Center.

Beecher's (Concord's passing QB) status as of Thursday was still uncertain. He's still wearing a brace on his throwing hand. I don't think it makes a difference - Havelock still wins.

Havelock faced a very good passer when they played New Bern, and were just a few muffed PAT's from winning that game. NB has a lot more size, speed, and talent than Concord.

If Beecher plays and can throw- it might not be a blowout, but Concord still won't be able to keep up with Havelock - the Rams top the Spiders by 14 ...or more.

Just to let you know. I am leaving shortly for the game and will be staying the weekend in CH so might not be on here till late Saturday or Sunday. So don't think I am hiding if I lose, I'm NOT KOMO!

I think the NB score is dead on so let's do Havelock. I say Havelock by at least 20 points.

  • piratefball172 Nov 30, 2012

Alright, New Bern by 17, Havelock by 10

We can do both NB and Havelock or just Havelock, your call. Give me your point spread prediction.

  • piratefball172 Nov 30, 2012

LOL....okay I accept the bet. I predict Havelock will win, but are we betting point spread?

  • Tyler12 Nov 30, 2012
    Sports Legend

I stay by my prediction. Concord's QB is banged up. They don't have the horses to keep up with Havelock. Havelock has a better D than people think. Cooper can sling the ball too, and they have 3-4 guys that can run the rock. All of my predictions have been correct till this point, don't expect anything to change. I will bet you some BBQ, Pirate!

  • piratefball172 Nov 30, 2012

It won't be with ease. Concord has the passing game to keep the game interesting. It will be a shoot out.

I agree Mojo...but I have seen Elijah Hood from Catholic. I have changed my mind on who is the best back in the state. He wins clearly. Scott from Havelock and Logan are great. Hood gets you the inside and outside numbers.

Watch Charlotte Catholic vs N. Guilford tonight. Im telling you Im not a N. Guilford fan but they could probably beat most 4a schools in this state

Best program in the state is clearly Tarboro High School. The hospital I work at is in Edgecombe County. State championship for 5 straight years, and Southwest Edgecombe has way more students. Going for a 4 peat. You can't argue with the results. Impossible to recruit when this is one of the poorest counties in NC so the coaching, weight program, student counseling is top notch for this small town 27 miles outside of Greenville. The numbers speak for themselves.

    #2 I would put Butler. Again #'s

#3 Richmond, New Bern, Scotland, Charlotte Catholic- Great programs with storied histories. Richmond, Scotland, and New Bern are the only show in town, but the pressure to win that those schools is high. Great job by the coaching staff. Charlotte Catholic is a private school which I still think is a disadvantage, but they will be 4A next year. Jim Oddo's state championships speak for itself.

#4 Britt, Garner, James Kenan in 1A- Again wins and numbers

  • Tyler12 Nov 30, 2012

Disagree with that MojoMadness. Think Havelock, Butler and NB could beat them.

HSFootballFan, I agree with you. Northern Guilford could be the best team in the state. Their 3 non-conference opponents were all 4-A, and they beat all 3. Taking away each teams' game with NG, this is what those 3 teams have averaged points-wise up to now, and what NG's defense ended up holding that team to...

    1) PAGE 29.9 ppg. (held to 7 pts)
    2) DUDLEY 38.7 (held to 7 pts)
    3) NW GUILFORD 33.0 ppg. (held to 0 pts...complete shutout)

As I mentioned in another post last week, I was at the NG game against Eastern Alamance last month and saw the Nighthawks absolutely dominate that game 49-7. Eastern is 8-1 this year, and minus the NG game they average 46.3 ppg!

Last Friday night they went on the road to play Rockingham County High School, a team that was 7-1 at the time. NG left with a 42-7 victory. Rockingham came in averaging 37.3 ppg! Also, that 4-A NW Guilford team that the Nighthawks beat earlier in the season has only lost one other game all year.

NG finishes the season on Oct. 26 at Western Alamance, who are currently 7-2. The top 4 teams in the Mid-State 3A conference are a combined 30-5. The NG defense is downright scary this year. Of course no team is unbeatable, but they are playing lights out at the moment. Up to this point in the season no team has scored more than 7 pts against them in a game...and these are some excellent teams. I've really enjoyed watching this program over the last couple of years. Coach Roscoe seems to get those kids to perform and produce at the highest level possible...they really are an amazing group of young men.

"Title in class 3AA will go through Northern Guilford. Maybe a stretch, but they may be the best team in the state, regardless of class."

They play in the toughest 3AA-3A conference in the state - teams which routinely field 60-70 players with size and speed along with at least a half dozen coaches. They look like many 4AA-4A schools instead of 3AA. I don't know about best overall - but they would be competitive with any school in the state. The conference champ in mid-state will remain a favorite for the state title for years to come. Trouble for the rest of the 3AA-3A field is that they may place 4 teams this year in the playoffs.

Yes he did. You played with some tough guys. Lee county and Richmond county were top dogs in the conference back then.

  • crouch1010 Oct 12, 2012

History doesn't win championships because teams don't play with historical players. RC is legendary in the 4A, but since Richmond has been considered a western team for state playoffs, they have to win the western side to meet an eastern team, that is not an SEC team also considered western for playoffs. They have not met too many eastern teams as the west champion lately. Greensboro Page, the 2011 4AA west champions, won the state 4AA title last year without any contact with RC.

Most of NB's eastern championship teams ran into indy in the finals. 4 times we played them and won once. I can take satisfaction in that. Against any other team NB would have 4.

NB is in the hunt every year. We had some tough breaks against Independence then had a heart breaker against Vad Lee and Hillside 2 years ago than last year to SC. NB doesn't fade in and out, they are in the mix every year, this season being no different.

New Bern = 8 eastern conference championships, New Bern = 1 State championship.

    RC = 13 eastern/western conference championships, RC = 7 State championships.
