Hats off to the Gryphons
I have to tip my hat to the Gryphons. The first half effort against Hunt was a great effort. The defense was hard hitting and that 4th down stand showed that those sophomores and juniors have a lot to hang their hats on this year. The Offense did not compliment the Defense in the second half, and became predictable. Hunt is a good football team. The Defense made the half time adjustment and shut down the Gryphon's drives. Josh Joyner is truly a strong and gifted running back. Hunt shows multiple sets in order to get joyner into space and thus gives the Opposing defense something to think about. The rest of the season should be very entertaining at best. So you young Gryphons have a lot to feel good about, and your coaches have a lot to work on. Good luck !

If that team is full of juniors and sophs you'd have to think they'd be a favorite in the Big East next year. One Warrior defender in the Wilson paper said Coach Raper didnt make adjusments, just told them they needed to "bow your necks", which is Wilson County for "toughen up and play hard". They had the great drive to open the game, then got to the Hunt 30 on I believe the possession after stopping us on the 4 yard line. After that seems like they had a 30+ yard pass in the 3rd and that was about it. Joyner finished with 241 on 24 carries and I believe his long was only 28 yards, shows the SPEED of the Rocky Mount defense running him down a couple times. Hunt only passed 3 times completeing 2 only a week after showcasing the pass early against NNash. Good job Rocky Moun. If both teams continue to play hard maybe the pod system will give us a round 2 rematch.

I read the quote in the paper about Bowing Your Kneck. Coach Bill Williamson used to tell us that and the tradition has been passed down through Coach Raper. He is exactly right. That's what Hunt did, they bowed their knecks and played tougher in the second half and finished plays. Sometimes in football that's what you have to do. Xs and Os don't always do the trick.
