pop warner vs school ball
I advised my nephews one in the 9th and the other in the 10th, that they are too old for pop warner and weigh scales. I thought their classmates might pick at them. Am i wrong?
RE: pop warner vs school ball
It all depends I would have them go out for the team but if they do not make it find a good pop warner team for them to help with the fundamentals. North Raleigh Bulldogs real good coaches capital City Steelers Durham eagles those are the power houses around here always sends teams to fla. I know that the coaches take it very serious the teams watch film as if they were in high school and they really stress fundamentals. To get these young men ready for high School you have a lot of good kids come out of these programs Braxton barrios (Cap-City) Keith Marshal (North Raleigh) and Durham eagles have a tone of good players that moved on the weight limit for midget football is max 170 older and lighter (15 year olds) 140.
RE: pop warner vs school ball
good points, but at some point you shouldnt "weigh in" to play football.

RE: pop warner vs school ball
It all depends on the kids level of football.. If he can handle high school ball, let them play, but if not pop warner is the way to go..I know the top players for HHS, JHS, and SHS all played for the Durham Eagles.
RE: pop warner vs school ball
Not in all situations but in most its being cut or in between growth spirts that put kids on Pop Warner teams at that age... the other option is to not play and that is never an option :) It shows coaches alot if a kid gets cut and then plays wherever he can to better himself. I also feel that playing for a good Pop Warner team is better for kids at the middle school level on a football side only bc in my experiance in this area middle school football is horrible... been to many games and have only seen one maybe two even decent teams.... the same cant be said for the durham area and cap city teams of the same age or weight... they can ball
RE: pop warner vs school ball
Typically most kids with the Durham Eagles leave Pop Warner after their Pee Wee season to play middle school football. It truly matters what kind of shape your childs middle school program is in.
RE: pop warner vs school ball
I agree. Most kids do leave after pee wee ball. The middle school, and JV ball in my opinion is the way to go. Better competition. I dont think you can get cut in pop warner ball. A friend of mines son played pop warner, and tore it up for years. He got to Pinecrest and found out they are bigger and faster than he is. School ball!!!!
RE: pop warner vs school ball
Since 7th graders generally don't get a lot of playing time on middle school teams, I would suggest Pop Warner until 8th grade...
RE: pop warner vs school ball
interesting points of view. Im just a school guy
RE: pop warner vs school ball
I think it depends on the talent level of the kid. Pop warner everybody plays regardless of their ability. 7th graders play when teams decide to have the 5th quarter
RE: pop warner vs school ball
We went with middle school ball starting in 7th grade. I think that there are some important components beyond skill that a kid learns when they make the move from a rec program (no matter how good) and school ball, particularly that you have to work for your spot, and you're not guaranteed play time. A lot of 12/13 year old boys that have grown up in the "everyone gets a medal" world are better served learning this in middle school so they can decide if they're willing to put the work in.
