NEW RULES?
Just curious,
I see that the "official" start of practice for football is Monday July 30 this year. What are teams allowed to do the week prior to the start of the season...I went by a school this week and they had at least 40 guys out on the field with coaches. Players had Helmets on, Shoulder Pads, and school practice Jerseys on...Is this a "newer" rule that allows conditioning in pads prior to the "official" start?
Just curious what teams are allowed to do now days in that week prior to the season...I have been out of it for a while but still follow it a little.
thanks

RE: NEW RULES?
I think we all see where this is going.Sounds to me as if said school was playing by the rules. Can we give it rest and just get ready for another great season?
RE: NEW RULES?
Take it easy Cantbustem,
No. you don't know "where this is going." I was really just curious...and by the way, it was way south of here...and I wouldn't mention where/exactly when anyway...none of my business...so your school, whatever it is, is safe...
have a good day.
RE: NEW RULES?
There was a team practicing with shoulder pads at a camp and that was back in early June. I've always believed it to be against the rules but I guess maybe they changed it.
RE: NEW RULES?
biggest thing is at this point is no contact....right now they are in conditioning and learning their systems
RE: NEW RULES?
yeah there is no hitting allowed, its just adjusted to the equipment, and maybe even the heat
RE: NEW RULES?
This is funny... after seeing the news this evening at 11, I was about to ask that very same question... quite possibly about the same team - the local team I saw practiced up until the last week of June and began practicing in helmets and pads last monday. I'm thinking "practice is practice", and this team is cheating. Back in my day there was no "coach - directed" activity of any sort allowed over summer. judging from the responses there are quite a few local schools that are in violation... it says "first day any fall sports are allowed to practice" - not "football teams can now engage in full contact drills" I do believe I'll be calling the NCHSSA for clarification...
RE: NEW RULES?
No violation unless there was body to body contact. Save your dime. Helmets are allowed and shoulder pads as well. Numbers are unlimited in the summer, just limited in the spring. I'm with cantbustem, let's get ready for a great season and don't start the nonsense on the first day.
RE: NEW RULES?
nah... think I'll confirm w/ the proper authorities seeing as how it says "The first day that all Fall sports teams may practice for the upcoming 2012 season"
- not "first full contact day", or other wording... it would suck to find that cheating has become so rampant that "everybody else is doing it" becomes a valid excuse for not following the rules

SOME OF YOU FOLKS NEED TO GET A LIFE!!
RE: NEW RULES?
Who said that teams should take a everyone else is doing stance? What was described was not a violation. Get a handbook and read it.
