RE: Keeping local talent in state
Actually, anyone who does take this so seriously I would tell them to get a grip to their face. And anyone that would get so upset about HS football recruiting.....should. We be having a civil coversonation here be. Why so upset be?
RE: Keeping local talent in state
I don't take issue with anyone being concerned that the best NC players are going out of state. Don't know why some people sound upset that he takes it pretty seriously. Its a given that the word "serious" is relative to the subject and the purpose of this message board.....high school sports.
Whether, in state schools are trying hard enough is debatable. Regardless of that fact, I think NC Universities are losing the battle too. You would think that they would have landed one of the top backs (Gurley or Marshall). I think their decision to compete against each other for the starting position at the same out of state school says alot.
RE: Keeping local talent in state
I'm not upset at all....it's just funny how people come on web sites and say things like get a grip...or it's not that serious....it's serious enough for people to take time out of their day to add, suggest, or state their opinion....this is a Highschool sports page...therefor i would think everyone on here has some kind of interest in this topic....I think it's silly to make such statements....It would be like going to a Christian web site and telling everyone to calm down about Jesus!...If you look at my post i wasn't talking to anybody in particular just made what I thought was an honest and viable statement...make your counter points if you must, but don't go around telling people how appropiate their passion is.....
RE: Keeping local talent in state
Young men are leaving the state because if they want to play MAJOR college ball they have to...How many 'rebuilding' years do these guys want to go through with their 5 years of eligibility? Stable, established programs are always going to trump programs who can't keep a coach for as long as it takes a guy to graduate...I'd love to see more players stay in state, but I can't blame them for leaving...
RE: Keeping local talent in state
So why did you say its only football? Lets see if you have Bama, LSU, USC, Oklahoma, Florida, Oregon etc. knocking on your door , where would you go?
RE: Keeping local talent in state
Steve Spurrier is better than any coach in the ACC. Please someone disagree!
RE: Keeping local talent in state
Comeonnow,
I am not claiming to be a "no it all", nor do I have inside information. I am not discrediting South Carolina or any school that recruits our state hard. I think the state of North Carolina has the potential to grow, and become more a of a force in college football.
To answer your question about do I think our in-state schools pursue our athletes hard enough, no I don't. I can only speak from some of the kids I have/do train. One recruiter told one of the athletes "they figured he would accept the bigger offers so they went after next on their list." ECU and Duke pursue pretty hard, but due to lack of BCS and/or success are not always successful.
Texas, the Florida schools, USC have made a living on making sure they recruit their state pretty hard. My question is what will it TAKE to keep these kids here? This wasn't to start an argument or drama.
Message boards are made for discussion. That is the whole reason it exist. Not to start rumors or progaganda. I have never been a "drama" starter on these boards. I just like to share different perspectives with other sports fans. If you take some of the post out of context, I suggest you read them over again.
RE: Keeping local talent in state
We are getting raided because the secret has gotten out nationally that north carolina has some good football players and its just hard for a kid to choose ECU, unc, State over florida, georgia, and lsu.
RE: Keeping local talent in state
Every kid has a dream is to play on TV, playing for the top rank schools. Right now the SEC is that conference we see on Saturdays at noon. The ACC just got a contract with Raycom Sports. Think about it, ACC has always being about basketball, not football.
