Colleges making high schools change their logo
Has anybody heard about colleges and the NCAA making high schools change their logo or pay royalties for using their logo? Nick, I wish you would do a story on this. The high schools are trying to run programs on spit and kleenex and many of the major schools are after them for money or making them change their logo. I think John Q. Public would like to know about this. What is next, the NFL going after the Pop Warner teams for the same thing. Enough is enough.
RE: Colleges making high schools change their logo
I have heard of this before. I understand it from a copyright standpoint (the university uses that logo to make money for the university), but how in the world does the university find out that some high school is using the logo? However, I have not heard of it happening very often.
RE: Colleges making high schools change their logo
I have seen cases where the colleges had the high schools pay them $1 in order to continue to use the logo. It's not so much that the colleges are concerned with the high school teams, it's that they need to protect the logo from copyright infringement.

I know after the Scotty McCreery video came out Georgia Tech contacted Garner and is making them stop using the GT logo that they have used off and on since the 70's I believe.
RE: Colleges making high schools change their logo
I can't even order a paw that resembles Clemson anymore because of the same thing. I have used this logo for several years and now have to switch it up.
RE: Colleges making high schools change their logo
I heard that Heritage, Garner and Wakefield have to change their logos.
RE: Colleges making high schools change their logo
yes garner cant use the GT for baseball anymore
RE: Colleges making high schools change their logo
I think it's hilarious that georgia tech thinks Garner High is trying to imitate them.

Wakefield was hit by Wisconsin for the "W" on the helmet.
Heritage was hit by Washington for "similarities" to the Husky logo.

Yes this has EVERYTHING to do with the mission of colleges/universities to promote higher learning...I guess Leesville better copyright the L...or maybe the Pride before some zoo decides to sue...It's kind of petty, but it just shows what a big business college athletics has become...Shakespeare was right about what to do with the lawyers...Washington and Wisconsin - one football has been and another never was...
RE: Colleges making high schools change their logo
it's real simple...before a school uses a college logo just write them and ask them if you can use it. they will give you parameters of when you can use their logo...if it were go to court...ummmm don't thing the colleges can win that one....but our school systems are run by a bunch of former teachers who will run away from any legal challenge..that's the reason why coaches and teachers are so limited in what they can't do..although I am not the biggest fan of lawyers...don't think blaming them is the right call to action
