I can smell the pigskin in the air
what matchups would u like to see early on?
RE: I can smell the pigskin in the air
Can anyone tell me why the coaches from the east refuse to play teams from higher classification or from states like SC,VA,GA,TENN,MD,etc. It seem the coaches from the west of Raleigh have no problems with it in any sports. Teams like Northeastern from Elizabeth City,Currituck County,Gates County and First Flight High School are the only schools from the northern part of the state that do it some time and a few schools from the southern part of eastern NC do play some teams from SC. But the so call power house teams in the east refuse to schedule any teams from out of state even if the out of state teams will help offset some of the expenses. Any ideals or suggestions?

Probably has more to do with location, travel and time away from school than anything else. Most of the schools that you have mentioned are an hour or less from the bordering state and it is easier to travel to those locations than to schools within the state, especially those that are centrally located.

It is called economics. Why spend large sums of money in difficult times to travel long distances when there is plenty of competition close by? Look how many 4A teams there are right around Raleigh. The Triangle conferences are also large, so there aren't many non-conference slots.
For the teams you mention, it is closer to play VA teams than many NC teams and they are not always in large conferences, either, so they have to find non-conference games.

I would much rather see the powerhouse teams from inside of our state matchup...no matter the classification...on neutral sites. I would love to see AC Reynolds, Butler, Mallard Creek, Page, Porter Ridge, Charlotte Catholic, etc. play the Fayetteville schools and/or Wake schools before conference play starts. Economics stink, but it would be a good measuring tool.
I would like to commend New Bern and Hillside for stepping their non conference schedule up. New Bern plays Hillside and Havelock back to back. That is rough.
