RE: What Effects is School of Choice Going to Have on This Fall?
no they wont cause there are to many parents around here that thinks little johnny is the best and they dont understand the word team.
RE: What Effects is School of Choice Going to Have on This Fall?
piratefball172 - yeah I hear ya...nobody I know thinks that this is a good thing, but if teams are playing under the rules laid down, then it is what it is...and the Wake Co. teams have been on the rise without this and the rule was put into place for non-athletic purposes...the law of unintended consequences comes into play here...We'll just have to see how it shakes out...
RE: What Effects is School of Choice Going to Have on This Fall?
teammugs, I'm thinking your school is one that will benefit from this.
As said earlier, the rich will get richer and the poor will get downright awful. I think you will see a Charlotte-type effect (a few dominant teams and some really, really bad ones). I'm afraid that it will not only happen athletically, but in other aspects as well---some really good schools to attend and some really awful ones.
RE: What Effects is School of Choice Going to Have on This Fall?
Here are some examples
1. You remember the dominant teams of Bob Paroli and Douglas Byrd in the 90's? Four straight state championship appearances. What about the dominant teams at Seventy First and the South View Tigers who went to the state title game 3 times in the early 2000s? All of that changed when Jack Britt was built. Pulled athletes from all 3 schools
2. I'm waiting for Fayetteville to soon follow suit with Wake County. No matter what the intent of the new rule is, you have some parents who could care less about the education aspect. They want to get with a coach who puts players in college. Coach Baily has sent 75 kids and I believe 3 or 4 others to play in the NFL. It is a very young school remember that. Kids want to player where they feel they will get noticed.
3. Which brings me to my next trend. You will start seeing coaches leave counties where one high school exist. That way they do not have to worry about the loss of athletes. Examples Coach Newsome of Kannapolis Brown and Coach Bailey leaving Britt. There are talks of another high school being constructed in Fayetteville around that area. That would be Grays Creek, Douglas Byrd, Jack Britt, Seventy First, South View and the new school drawing from the same talent pool. At places like AL Brown, Scotland County, Anson County, and Richmond County...there is one top dog.
Coach Newsome left stacked Butler teams after winning back to back state titles and obtaining a national ranking. Coach Bailey left what possibly could be from top to bottom the best Jack Britt team he has had. (Just from what I hear).

Interesting point about Britt, I knew it was a newer school but I didn't know that they were thinking about building another...really good points...and oldtimecoach - yes I've thought about that - and Leesville offers a great academic atmosphere as well...players have gone on to State, Duke, Brown, Elon...schools that look pretty good on a resume...

thanks teammugs, hope you have a great weekend.

Another big question is how this will affect the teams outside of Wake County(Durham, Johnston, etc.) that are in the same conferences as Wake County schools. I see them being at a disadvantage as well.
