Final girls' state playoff brackets released

The 2014 N.C. High School Athletic Association girls' state playoff brackets were released Saturday evening.  More Info     NCHSAA Generic Logo FINAL girls' basketball playoff brackets

The brackets were released after an initial preliminary seeding came out and was updated several times.

All games will be hosted by the higher seed, and playoff games will be played Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Games will be played at 7 p.m., unless a boys' and girls' double-header is played at 6:30 p.m. and 8 p.m.

4-A East

Two teams that went 21-1 in the regular season lead the 4-A East pack. Millbrook is the top seed in the region and will host Wakefield in a match-up of Cap-8 conference foes. Southeast Raleigh is the second seed in the bracket and will play Northern Durham in the first round.

The Cary Imps and Duke recruit Azura Stevens are the third seed in the bracket. Southern Alamance is the fourth seed and Hillside is the fifth seed.

The SWAC and Cap-8 conferences will go head-to-head twice in the first round of the bracket. Broughton (12) will host Athens Drive (21) while Apex (11) hosts Wake Forest (22).

The undefeated Chapel Hill Tigers are the top seed in the region after completing an undefeated 22-0 regular-season campaign. The Tigers capped off their perfect season with a win against Cardinal Gibbons in the Big Eight conference championship.

Northern Nash also went undefeated in their season, and the team has the second overall seed in the region.

The defending-champion Kinston Vikings are the sixth seed in the region and will host Durham School of the Arts in the first round of the playoffs.
