— Knightdale High School has hired its next girls basketball coach.

Knightdale athletic director Chad Smothers said on Thursday that Martin Faison has been promoted to the position of head varsity girls basketball coach.

Faison had previously served as the junior varsity girls basketball coach at Knightdale.

"Coach Faison has done a fabulous job as head JV coach as well as assisting the varsity team," Smothers said. "Coach Faison has tremendous energy and has great relationships with his players."

Faison will replace Trent Bunn, who stepped down after the Knights posted a 21-7 record last season.

Knightdale will be a member of the new Northern Athletic 4-A Conference.
