Duke recruit Matt Jones finished with a team-high 17 points and 4 assists to lead DeSoto, Texas, to a 57-50 victory against Kinston in the quarterfinals of the Summit Hospitality bracket of the HighSchoolOT.com Holiday Invitational Thursday night.

In front of a packed house at Raleigh Broughton High School's Holliday Gymnasium -- and in front of Duke head assistant coach Chris Collins -- Jones helped keep the fan favorite Vikings at bay, even when Kinston got a lead that was once 15 points down to three late in the fourth quarter.

"It was tough," said DeSoto coach Chris Dyer. "Kinston's a good team and we knew it was going to be tough coming in. ... I was very proud of our team, as a whole."

Terry Maston had 16 points and a team-high 6 rebounds to help the Eagles (17-1) to the victory, while Takedrick Brown added 10 points for DeSoto, which will face the winner of the Waxhaw Cuthbertson-Hampton, Va., game at 7:20 p.m. on Thursday.

Kinston was led by Josh Dawson, a four-year Holiday Invitational participant, who finished with 17 points and four assists. Denzel Keyes had 12 points while Brandon Ingram added 10 for the Vikings (9-1), who have won three NCHSAA titles in the past five years.

"I'm very proud of the effort my team gave tonight," said first-year Kinston coach Perry Tyndall. "They didn't give up tonight."
