Enloe athletic director Tommy Moore said Thursday that the Eagles found an ineligible player on the girls basketball team.
According to Moore, the player became ineligible when her physical lapsed during the season.
"We just didn't catch it, but now that she has a new physical, she's eligible again," Moore said.
The NCHSAA requires student-athletes to have annual physicals by a doctor.
Enloe, which self-reported the violation to the N.C. High School Athletic Association, will forfeit eight games due to the ineligible player. Those games include six conference games and two non-conference games.
Wins that will be vacated by Enloe include games against Heritage, Jordan, Leesville Road, Northern Durham, Wake Forest-Rolesville, Wakefield and two games against Broughton.
Enloe is now sixth in the Cap Eight standings. Only the top five teams from the conference will make the NCHSAA state playoffs which begin Feb. 14.
