At least five area players selected for Shrine Bowl

Posted November 2, 2010

Players and coaches are being notified this week of student-athletes who have been selected for the 2010 Shrine Bowl of the Carolinas.

On Tuesday morning, HighSchoolOT.com confirmed that Hillside quarterback Vad Lee and Southern Durham defensive back Sherman Ragland were selected to the Shrine Bowl. By Tuesday evening, Jordan athlete T.J. Thorpe and Fuquay-Varina defensive lineman Shawn Underwood were also added to the list.

Sources told HighSchoolOT.com Tuesday that Broughton athlete Juston Burris was also selected to the team.

Lee has committed to play at Georgia Tech next season, while Ragland will play at Wake Forest and Burris at N.C. State. Thorpe and Underwood have both committed to North Carolina.

Shrine Bowl selections are expected to be officially announced this week.

The Shrine Bowl of the Carolinas is an all-star football game between the best senior football players from North Carolina and the best from South Carolina. The annual event will be held on Dec. 18, at Gibbs Stadium in Spartanburg, S.C.

Great job for all of these young men. Looking forward to seeing Burris at NC State and hopefully watching our Fuquay Bengal lineman play at North Carolina.

If Burris and Ragland are in it, then Isaiah Johnson from PC and Donte Johnson from Cary should be as well.

Congrats to the guys that made it. I am sure there are other guys that made it in this area. The Shrine bowl commitee usually prefer announcing who made the team and I know it is scheduled to be announced next week. Sometimes it's not good to be the first to break the news.
