Pezzoni field goal lifts Broughton past Athens Drive

A 22-yard field goal by Hayden Pezzoni with 17 seconds left in the game gave Broughton it's second consecutive win as the Caps knocked off Athens Drive, 23-21.
Broughton started the game on a tear.
The Caps' Will Cooper completed a 15-yard pass to Juston Burris for a touchdown in the first quarter, then Chris Mangus broke a 58-yard touchdown rown.
Pezzoni's two extra-points gave Broughton a 14-0 lead at the half.
Athens Drive got on the board in the third quarter when A.J. Stewart caught a 32 yard pass from Ben Snotherly, cutting the Broughton lead to 14-7.
In the fourth quarter, Snotherly completed a second touchdown pass to Louis Wilder, tying the game at 14-14.
Broughton responded quickly. Cooper completed a 35-yard touchdown pass to Mangus, but the Jaguars blocked the extra-point attempt by Pezzoni.
Athens Drive trailed 20-14, but the Jags responded.
After a nice drive, Snotherly took the keeper in for a four-yard score, and with a successful extra-point, Athens Drive took a 21-20 lead.
With 17 seconds left, Pezzoni lined up and connected on the 22-yard field goal attempt, lifting Broughton to it's second win of the season.
The Broughton defense limited Athens Drive to just 75-yards on the ground on 28 carries. But the Jags did completed 17-of-33 passes for 261-yards.
Athens Drive (2-1) will open up the Tri-9 conference season next week at Green Hope (0-2). Meanwhile, Broughton (2-1) will continue it's non-conference schedule with a game at Fayetteville Terry Sanford (1-1).
