Local players named to NCBCA All-District teams

The N.C. Basketball Coaches Association released the All-District teams on Monday afternoon.

The selections are made by member coaches.

In the Triangle area, there are two districts with local schools involved. District 5 includes Wake and Johnston County schools, while District 6 includes Chatham, Durham, Orange, and Person County schools, among others.

Millbrook's Tyrrel Tate and Enloe's Emanuel Chapman, both seniors, were named Co-Players of the Year in District 5.

Tate averaged 15-points and seven rebounds per game. He was an All-Conference selection in the Cap 7, and led his team to a regional semifinal appearance in Greenville.

Chapman averaged ten-points per game, along with six assists and three boards. The senior also shot 73-percent from the free throw line. Chapman was named the Cap 7 Player of the Year last month.

Both Tate and Chapman are on the first team for District 5.

Apex big man Weston Murphy, Millbrook's Jarrick Brown and Wakefield's Keith Armstrong round out the first team.

Murphy averaged 16-points and seven rebounds for the Cougars. He was named to the 2009 GlaxoSmithKline Holiday Invitational All-Tournament Team, and was an All-Conference selection in the Tri-9.

Millbrook head coach Scott McInnes, the District 5 Coach of the Year, calls Brown his "glue."

Brown averaged 11-points and six boards per game. He also dished out an averaged of three assists each time out and shot 83-percent from the free throw line.

During his senior season, Brown received Tom Suiter's Extra Effort Award and was named an All-Conference selection.

Armstrong is the only player from the District 5 team to averaged a double-double. The Wakefield senior averaged 12-points and ten rebounds per game for the Wolverines, earning All-Conference honors.

The District 5 second team is comprised of Connor Belicic (Apex), Mark Parker (West Johnston), Donzell Hill (Millbrook), J.R. Owens (Broughton) and Stephen McAllister (Middle Creek).

Melvin Tabb (Enloe), Tyler Nicholson (Knightdale), Jerod Blakney (Enloe), Xavier Saddler-Mee (Wakefield), and Mike Fogg (Apex) round  out the third team for District 5.

Riverside sophomore T.J. Warren was named the Player of the Year for District 6.

Warren averaged 15.4-points per game this season, combined with four rebounds and two assists. He shot 56-percent from the field and 71-percent from the free throw line. He was also named the PAC 6 Player of the Year.

The sophomore helped lead his team to the 4-A East Regional Finals.

Jim Pappas, the head coach at Cedar Ridge, was named the district's Coach of the Year.

Joining Warren on the first team for District 6 is Jake Lliteras (Cedar Ridge), Keegan Pace (Burlington Williams), T.J. Thorpe (Jordan) and Aaron Law (East Chapel Hill).

Lliteras, the Carolina 9 Conference Player of the Year, averaged 16-points per game and helped the Red Wolves to the regional semifinals.

Pace is the high-scorer in the district, averaging 27-points per game. He also recorded an average of seven assists per game and pulled down three rebounds. Pace's performance was enough to earn All-Conference honors.

Thorpe, who recently committed to play football at North Carolina, averaged 17-points and five-rebounds per game this season, shooting 80-percent from the foul line.

Law averaged 14.1-points per game for East Chapel Hill to go along with 5.3 assists per game.

Both Thorpe and Law were PAC 6 All-Conference selections.

Making the second team for District 6 is James Manor (Chapel Hill), Sean Deniton (Riverside), Jarod Belvin (Riverside), Anthony Winbush (Person) and Keegan Wetzel (Eastern Alamance).

Rounding out the third team is Geoffrey Hunter (Southern Durham), Darquis Thomas (J.F. Webb), Dylan Guye (Eastern Alamance), Josh Pappas (Cedar Ridge) and Randall Davis (East Chapel Hill).

The HighSchoolOT.com All-OT Teams for boys and girls basketball will be released on Wednesday evening at 6:30 p.m.
