Panther Creek boys basketball coach Travis Chapman will not return next season, according to athletic director Todd Schuler.
Chapman announced his resignation this week.
Schuler said Chapman will relocate with his family in an effort to support his wife in a business opportunity.
"Obviously we're disappointed to lose Travis, he's been a part of Panther Creek since we opened," Schuler said. "He's done a good job and he was definitely the right person to take over."
This past season was the first season for Chapman as the head coach at Panther Creek. He took over for former coach L.J. Hepp after he resigned last spring to become the director of basketball operations for the University of South Carolina.
During the 2009-2010 season, Chapman led the Catamounts to a 14-11 overall record, including a 10-6 mark in the Tri-9 Conference.
The Catamounts finished third in the conference, and fell at home to Wakefield in the first round of the N.C. High School Athletic Association's 4-A state playoffs.
Schuler said Chapman notified the team of his resignation on Thursday.
The new coach that replaces Chapman will be the school's third coach in three years.
"I'm not looking forward to starting that process again, but we support Travis in his decision," Schuler said.
According to Schuler, there is no time table for naming a new coach, but he said the job will likely be posted next week.
"We're getting to that point where we will see what teaching allotments we have available for next year," he said.
