Shelton lifts Cary past Holly Springs

Jan 23, 2010

Anthony Shelton scored 19-points to lead all scorers as Cary defeated Holly Springs, 65-58.

The Golden Hawks led the Imps 11-7 after the first quarter, but Cary's offense began to click in the second quarter.

Led by Shelton, Cary outscored the Hawks 22-16 in the second quarter to take a 29-27 lead into the half.

Cary needed other players to step up Friday because leading scorer Austin Brannen picked up three quick fouls in the opening half, limiting his playing time. Brannen only scored one-point in the game.

Shelton, along with Colton Lehman and Lucas Edmisten, continued to lead the Imps in the second half.

Cary outscored Holly Springs 16-14 in the third quarter and 20-17 in the final quarter to win by seven-points.

To go with Shelton's 19-points, Lehman had 13-points and Edmisten scored 11-points.

Amir Hasan and Stephen Bajorek both scored seven-points a piece for the Imps.

Quentin Underwood led the Golden Hawks in scoring with 15-points. Kent Burnette scored 11-points and LaCurtis Latimore posted 10-points for Holly Springs.
