Riverside had to hang on to it's lead in the second half to prevent Hillside from handing the Pirates their first conference loss of the season.
Despite being outscored in three of the four quarters on Friday evening, Riverside defeated Hillside 75-73.
Hillside, which got big performances from Torian Graham, Mykael Faulcon, Vad Lee and Jesse Harris, led Riverside 15-14 after the first quarter, but the Pirates took control in the second.
Riverside outscored 26-15 in the second quarter, not just to take a lead, but to take a 10-point lead into halftime.
That lead didn't last long though.
Hillside again outscored Riverside in the third quarter, 22-15. The Pirates only led by three-points entering the final quarter of play.
T.J. Warren came up big for Riverside, scoring 22-points to ensure his team would come away the victors.
The two teams played evenly for much of the fourth quarter, but Hillside managed to outscore Riverside 21-20 in the final quarter.
The one-point margin was too little for the Hornets, though. Riverside escaped with a two-point conference victory.
Warren's 22-points led all scorers, but Jarod Belvin and Sean Deniton added 13 and 12-points respectively for the Pirates. Brian Berry also scored 10-points for Riverside.
Hillside was led by Graham with 17-ponits.
Faulcon had 16-points for the Hornets, and Vad Le and Jesse Harris added 15 and 13-points respectively.
