Johnson out as head football coach at Knightdale

Knightdale High School is looking for a new head football coach.

According to Knightdale athletic director Guy Blough the position is open and was posted to the Wake County Public Schools job listings on Tuesday.

"It will be posted for 10 days, but as soon as applications start coming in, we'll start the interview process," Blough said.

The outgoing coach at Knightdale is Kamelio Johnson. The reason for his departure is not yet known, but Blough said Johnson did not resign to take another coaching position.

The Knights were 1-10 overall this season and 1-6 in the Greater Neuse River Conference. Knightdale won its last game of the season over East Wake, 13-12.

Blough said he wants to fill the position as soon as possible.

"Obviously we want to fill it no later than April," Blough said. "We want to get someone in here as soon as possible."

He is definitely a great guy. More time should have been given, regardless of the record.

This is a great guy who influenced a lot of kids when he was at Sanderson. Too bad they lost him and it's unfortunate that things didn't work out at Knightdale. How can a high school coach turn a program like Knightdale around in only two years? What were the expectations? To win, or to help discipline those kids before they can learn how to win?

He was told to step aside!!!!! How can we teach today's childern that when thing dont go as planned that you have to work harder to make the plan work. When all they see is if it does work right away scrap it and do something else. FIRED OVER A 1-10 season when the program was 2-9 when he recieved it. It sad what WAKE COUNTY HAS COME TO. WIN right away or get FIRED.
