Kinston ends Northwood's season, 34-21

Nov 28, 2009

Kinston took the first lead against Northwood on Friday as the Vikings pushed to a 34-21 third round victory, knocking the Chargers out of the playoffs.

Dory Hines scored on a two yard run in the first quarter to put Kinston up 7-0, but Sam Griffin responded for Northwood with a 14 yard touchdown run to tie the game.

But Kinston got a lead it never lost later in the first quarter.

Hines scored on a second two yard run, and after the kick failed, Chris Brown caught a 56 yard touchdown pass from Hines to push the Kinston lead to 19-7. Brown ran into the end zone to succeed on the two-point conversion.

Tra Chandler tried to get the Chargers back into the game in the third quarter with a 42 yard touchdown reception from Griffin, cutting the lead to 21-14.

Kinston led 21-14 at the break.

However, Josh Benoit broke a 30 yard touchdown in the third quarter to push Kinston's lead back to 14 points.

Griffin ran into the end zone from seven yards out to bring Northwood back within seven, but a 31 yard touchdown run by Jerome Vaughn sealed the win for Kinston in the fourth quarter.
