Nov 6, 2009

Cardinal Gibbons (10-1) used all parts of the game in scoring a 35-14 win over J.F. Webb Friday night in Oxford.

The Crusaders scored five times in the first half. Gibbons' first score was a 1-yard Doug Burton sneak to give the Crusaders a 7-0 lead with 8:58 left in the first period.

The Crusader defense got on the scoreboard 21 seconds later as Andrew Shafer scooped up a Warrior fumble and ran 35 yards for a score to make it 14-0.

Burton then connected twice with receiver Michael Pampliano for touchdown receptions of 85 and 74 yards to give the Crusaders a commanding 28-0 lead in the first period.

Webb got on the board with 7:23 left in the first half on a Joel Adcock 3-yard run. The two-point conversion made it 28-8.

The Crusaders scored one more touchdown on the night with 5:07 left in the first half on a fake punt and a 70-yard Austin Donnald run.

Webb scored once more with 2:33 left in the game on another Adcock run, this time from two yards out. The two-point conversion failed and the Crusaders traveled home with the win.
