Another N.C. State, John Wall Facebook group surfaces

Apr 11, 2009

Another Facebook group has been established urging John Wall to go to N.C. State.

On Saturday morning, the Facebook group "NC State Needs John Wall" surfaced in search results for "John Wall" on the social networking site.

There were 12 members as of Saturday at 1:45 p.m.

The group description references the previous Facebook group that was shutdown by the N.C. State athletic department out of fear it could be an NCAA violation.

"This group is set up by a fan, whose only connection to the school is that his dad graduted [sic] from State in the 60's," the description says. The group was developed by William Brian Scott who is in the Greenville, S.C., network.

The previous group was titled "John Wall PLEASE come to NC STATE!!!" It was developed by N.C. State freshman Taylor Moseley and had over 700 members before the school told him to take it down.

A simple search on Facebook for "John Wall" reveals a number of groups from other schools encouraging Wall to come to their program. There are numerous groups from Kentucky and Memphis, and at least one group from Baylor and Duke.
Post by hornet2729
Your statements about coach Sidney tells me that you are not a true State fan at all. An State need to believe in its own ex players & coach. So why arent you blaming States administration for destroying our basketball by going after coach V & not honoring his contract with them ? An no bi time coach will come here until they can trust them.

Typical WRAL and N&O reporting...why are we only hearing about State fans doing this? As usual the bias news against NC State continues...let's hear about the UNC, Duke, Memphis, Kentucky, Baylor sites also...

Duckman,

See last paragraph. The other schools are mentioned there. The thing is, none of these other schools are shutting down these sites, N.C. State is the only one. According to the Associated Press article we ran yesterday, the other schools aren't commenting about the issue either.

I guess you would know about "dumb" posts. According to you, UNC was supposed to lose to Nova. I agree that freedom of speech should apply in the myspace site issue. Students were asking him to come and not school officials. Interesting.

Why no mention of the UNC, Memphis, Kentucky, Duke or Baylor sites for John Wall?

"I wonder if NC State will try to shut this one down?? Ridiculous."

NC State had no business shutting the other one down. This time, they have absolutely NO jurisdiction over the webpage's owner. I wish the student had left it up to see what NC State would have done about it. I was hoping for lawsuits so this could be resolved for future reference. As far as I'm concerned, stupid NCAA rules do not trump freedom of speech. This student was not "officially" tied to the university or any of its recruiters. There could literally be THOUSANDS of similar webpages. Are universities really expected to police this? It's just dumb.

Almost as dumb as that other post here about Sidney Lowe being a bad coach. Probably a Carolina fan. Sidney is doing alright with me.

Only a complete idiot would choose to play for Sidney Lowe. Sidney Lowe is a terrible coach and as long as NC State has him, they will be the 4th best NC ACC team behind Duke, UNC, and Wake Forest (in no particular order). John Wall lives here. If you had to choose between UNC, which just won a national championship, or Duke, which has one of the best college coaches ever, or NC State, which has done nothing for years, which would you choose? A program that you will excel in, or a program with a failure of a coach? NC State needs a new coach and new athletic director and unfortunately they will get neither.
