WEST END — 30 boys have been named to the 2008 N.C. All-State Boys’ Golf Team by the Tarheel Youth Golf Association honoring them for their outstanding performance over the past 12 months. The N.C. All-State award recognizes those junior golfers who have had the most successful year in junior golf events at the local, state, regional and national levels.
The boy’s first team is headed by 2008 N.C. Junior Player of the Year Michael McGowan of Southern Pines. McGowan, a high school senior, won two events in 2008 and finished in the top ten eleven times in sixteen junior tournaments. Also named to the first team were Michael Marshburn of Cay, the 2008 Carolinas Junior champion; Justin Clement of Lexington, winner of the N.C. Junior and North and South Junior; Robert Hoadley, runner-up in the Dogwood State Junior; Bo Andrews of Raleigh, winner of the AJGA CNL Lifestyle Junior; Logan Harrell of Huntersville, medalist in the US Junior Amateur sectional qualifying; Zach Munroe of Charlotte, winner of the Joe Cheves Junior Invitational; Grayson Murray of Raleigh, winner of the AJGA Sta-Green Junior All-Star Championship; and Robert Register of Burlington, winner of the NCHSAA 3A Championship and Michael Cromie of Cary, winner of the FCWT Bermuda Run Open.

To be eligible, boys’ must have played in a minimum of 10 TYGA N.C. rankings events from December 1, 2007 through November 30, 2008.
The awards were determined by a combination of each player’s scoring differential and the total points earned in the rankings events.
These outstanding juniors will be honored at the N.C. Junior Golf Night Awards Banquet Friday, December 26, 2008 at Little River Golf and Resort in Carthage, NC.
