Numerous postponements, some still playing

Nov 14, 2008

The first round of the N.C. High School Athletic Association state playoffs is scheduled to start Friday, but heavy rain and the possibility of severe weather could put a damper on those games.

The NCHSAA soccer state championship games scheduled for Saturday have been postponed to Sunday and Monday.

Meteorologists in the WRAL HD Weather Center said that several inches of rain could fall in the Triangle area, and on a normal Friday that would mean a lot of postponed games.

The NCHSAA updated their statement on their Web site Friday afternoon. The NCHSAA recommends all games be made up on Saturday, but leaves Monday open as an option if Saturday does not work.

Both teams must come to a mutual agreement on a make-up date and time.

HighSchoolOT.com and WRAL-TV are standing by all day Friday to track statewide game postponements. If your game is postponed, or if it is on as scheduled, please call or e-mail us to let us know. We will help get the word out to your fans and spectators, but we also want to be sure that we don't send a camera for Football Friday to an empty field.

You can contact HighSchoolOT.com and WRAL-TV in one of the following ways:

E-mail us at sportsusers@wral.com

As of 2:20 p.m., WRAL-TV's Football Friday with Tom Suiter is still on as scheduled. A decision about the show will be made later Friday as postponements are reported.

The Saturday morning radio show, High School OT, hosted by Adam Harris on 99.9 FM The Fan will go on as scheduled.

Stay with HighSchoolOT.com for complete playoff coverage.

I will learn how too play video games if you promise to learn that football games are not a place where you come to sip your hot tea and socialize about your hard day at work. Telling fans how hard a discussion you had to make about playing the game cause the weather wasn't beautiful enough or the game might damage the field.(its a game that has different elements, thats what makes it great) I know theirs more things the school does with the football field but football is the only thing you seem to think will damage it if a game is played on it. I'll go too playing video games You stick to pretending knowing what your doing...Mr. I dont want to hurt the fields

sorry, seemed like an appropriate response to the punctuation-free disseration: If you have a chance for fans to NOT sit in the rain, why not play on Saturday? Seems to make sense ( no offense TheFootballer). HEY!! Here's a thought: If you want to sit in the rain and watch a game, go to another game!!! You already figured out there are other games being played. OR you could sit at your computer, complain and suggest you have a better way to do it. To make the absurd suggestion that only football uses the field shows a total lack of what it takes to run a comprehensive athletic program. Stick to video games......

Well, I didn't know just the fields in this area are the only one so sensitive, and substantially harmed when they are played on while their wet. I guess in other parts of North Carolina the grass grow tougher and State gives those school more money for their athletic department for thier field maintenance,or is it just their hot dogs are more exspensive at the game because I sure don't see them cancelling on the sight of rain. And no am not sleeping in on Saturday morning I'm admiring your only used maybe 5 home football game per year,no practice time used, rain stay off limit grass!!!!

What a wealth of knowledge for Mr. Gurley and the AD's of Wake County (oh and Nelson Smith). I'm sure they are visiting to gather the correct steps to take for their decisions. Yeah, we get challenged for being too concerned about $$$ but try and raise tickets or hot dogs a dollar and have to listen to fans scream. The cost of putting more teams on the field and yes field maintenance isn't getting any cheaper. If you have NEVER seen a field substantially harmed by wet field play, you were probably sleeping in that next Saturday morning. Of course it must have been some OTHER area, since nobody around here knows what they are doing.

Guys, its never about the rain or the elements in this area when it come too High School football. Its about the gate money. But me personally I have been too a few Monday night games and the crowds are weak. I always said a rainy Friday game will bring in way more money than any dry Monday night game. And if you're worried about the field getting damaged I've never seen a field that a rainy game has messed it up for a season! FORGET ABOUT THE MONEY AND LET THE BOYS PLAY!!!!!!
