APEX — The Middle Creek Mustangs will receive an automatic bid to the N.C. High School Athletic Association state playoffs.
Middle Creek won the tie-breaker in the Tri-Eight between themselves, Cary and Athens Drive. All three teams were tied for third place at 4-3 in the conference.
Cary drew fourth place, while Athens Drive took fifth.
The NCHSAA takes the top three teams from each conference as automatic bids to the playoffs. Fuquay-Varina will get the top bid from the Tri-Eight, probably the overall No. 1 seed in the 4-A East. Apex will have the No. 2 bid from the conference, while Middle Creek will get the No. 3 bid.
The Imps and the Jaguars can still get an at-large bid to the playoffs, but they will not be guaranteed a spot. Each team is 4-7 overall, and 4-3 in the conference.
The preliminary brackets are set to be released by 4 p.m., Saturday. The finalized brackets will be posted by the NCHSAA by 6 p.m. You will be able to find the brackets, as well as in-depth analysis, right here on HighSchoolOT.com throughout the weekend.
