Brackets updated, interesting match-ups possible in 1st round

Nov 7, 2008

RALEIGH — With the help of NationalSportsRankings.com, HighSchoolOT.com has been projecting the playoff brackets for the past three weeks of the regular season.

UPDATED AT 10:00 AM - FRIDAY, NOV. 7 -- There were some inconsistencies with our formula that we used on Thursday. It has been fixed, and the projections were run again. The updated projected brackets are below.

We have combined our powers to create a playoff projection using the latest average daily membership (ADM) numbers from the N.C. High School Athletic Association, and the predictions for this week's 4-A games from NationalSportsRankings.com.

The projections are just that, projections, and a lot will depend on how ties are broken in the seeding process, something that we cannot predict.

HighSchoolOT.com is going to attempt to project the brackets on Friday night after all scores are reported, but if all 4-A scores cannot be found, there will not be another projection before the brackets are released.

Playoff brackets should be released Saturday afternoon or early evening.

HighSchoolOT.com will have reaction on Saturday night, and be sure to join HighSchoolOT.com staff for a special LIVE BLOG on Sunday night at 8:00. The blog will last until at least 9 p.m., but will probably go later.

Additional reaction from coaches can be found right here next week also, and we'll have complete playoff coverage on Friday night.

You will definitely have to change your projections now that WF-R has beaten Leesville Road. Surely WF-R is better than a #9 seed.

The AP Poll has nothing to do with the brackets. The brackets are determined by a formula, not by someone's opinion on how teams stack up against the others.

I am just curious how you have Jack Britt as a #3 seed in the east. According to the NC polls Britt is currently ranked 3rd in the state behind Independence and Butler and they are in the west. That would leave Britt as the #1 seed in the east. Maybe I missed something. Are you basing this on another ranking system other than the states poll?

Yeah... We didn't have the Mallard Creek forfeits taken into consideration... They (Ardrey-Kell) lost to Mallard Creek in the first game of the season, but they actually won because of forfeit. With the loss, and with a win tonight, they would have been 5-5 and would have a chance at a playoff berth.

Yes... Chapel Hill is going to the west this year. East is stacked and there isn't enough room for them.

Athens, SER, and Cary all move down to 4-A. They were all 4-AA last year, and no more fuquay-cary rematch after the Ardrey-Kell issue was fixed. But still, some very interesting match-ups.

I'm pretty sure Ardrey-Kell can't make the playoffs, which will move WFR back to 4-AA. All four of AK's doesn't have a non-conference loss to drop and will have to drop a win, leaving them at best 4-6 with only one conference win. That won't get them in. They're not on Drew's list of bubble teams and he includes everyone who has any chance at all.
