CHAPEL HILL — On Friday, the N.C. High School Athletic Association released the adjusted average daily membership numbers that will be used when the playoff brackets are created next weekend.
The Deparment of Public Instruction released the raw ADM numbers this week, but the NCHSAA must adjust the numbers for academies, students who go to classical school but play sports at their base school, and other special circumstances like federal schools.
You can view the ADM numbers here.
The ADM numbers will be used to determine which schools go to the 4-A playoffs, and which schools go to the 4-AA playoffs. The NCHSAA will determine the top 64 teams that make the playoffs, then using the ADM numbers, the association will divide the playoffs into 4-A and 4-AA.
The 32 schools with the smallest ADM numbers will go to the 4-A playoffs, while the 32 largest schools to make the playoffs will go to the 4-AA.
The playoff projections that HighSchoolOT.com has been posting throughout the last few weeks were derived from last year's ADM numbers, so the projections could be a little different next week when the new ADM numbers are used.
Football is the only sport that uses ADM numbers to determine the playoff brackets.
