Cary stuns Middle Creek, 34-7

Oct 11, 2008

The Cary Imps jumped out to a 28-0 lead in the first half and never looked back on homecoming night.

Ralph Chapman got the Imps on the board first with a 5-yard run in the first quarter. Minutes later, Chris Barfield hammered in a 2-yard run, and after the first quarter Cary held the 14-0 lead.

In the second quarter, Cary quarterback Daniel Steed found Lucas Edminsten for a 31-yard touchdown. The pass was one of only two completions for Cary on the night. Blake Beazlie had the other catch for 18-yards, and Steed also threw that pass.

Bryan Wilson got the second touchdown of the second quarter for Cary when he ran in from 2-yards out.

Cary's 28-0 halftime lead only got larger in the third quarter.

Wilson again ran into the end zone for a touchdown, this time from 5-yards out. Wilson had 63-yards on 12 carries Friday night against the Mustangs.

Middle Creek finally put points on the board in the fourth quarter. Max Drisko found Marvin Mackey open for a touchdown to prevent a shutout.

The Cary defense held the Mustangs to just seven-yards on the ground, including a number of sacks on sophomore quarterback Garrett Leatham. On the night, Leatham's net rushing yardage was -23.

The Imps enjoyed 264-yards rushing, led by Tommy Robinson with 87-yards and Chapman with 75.

Middle Creek won the battle through the air, completing 16 of 35 passes for 235-yards. Leatham was 8 of 20 for 93-yards and no touchdowns, while Drisko was 8 of 15 for 142-yards and one touchdown.

Cary's Daniel Steed recorded two completions on four attempts for 49-yards and one touchdown.

With the win, Cary advances to 2-5 overall and 2-1 in the Tri-Eight Conference. The Imps are now tied with Panther Creek for third place in the conference.

The Mustangs drop to 2-5 overall and 1-2 in the conference.

this is all very true but at the same time the number of attempts is a big factor, cary has yet to throw the ball as much as many would like to see, also the second string quarterback has been given several chances in games in which he showed little poise and he is still very young. just because you may see this as a rebuilding year doesn't mean the cary team should throw away the whole season. there are many players who have dedicated many years and hours to this program and they for sure deserve their fair share of playing time, also many of these younger players will have another year and in many cases even two years to gain lots of experience. lastly many of the younger players are on the varsity team simply because there is a large shortage of players and depth is a huge issue.

I think the score was a reflection on how the entire team played, and the kicking game was great onside kick caused a turnover and the pooch kick caused a turnover, the punting was also good.

Sorry for the late reply, but I was away from a computer. First off, QB2 is not my son. I think the team was clicking on all cylinders Friday night. I was not aware of the rules governing when JV players can play at the varisty level. I just want Cary's football program to build for the future (I have kids that are going and are going to go to Cary) and it seemed like there was a lost chance to do that. I do agree that the line and the running game won the game for the IMPs.

to the first comment, cary have two players that played on both junior varsity and varsity ( our back up QB and a RB). There is a catch to that, that they are only allowed to play a certain number of quarters on the varsity level, therefore, coach just trying to conserve those quarters remaining as much as possible ( even though if they only play one snap, that counted as one quarter)

The QB completed 2 passes - but how many attempts? Careful on how you criticize. The entire Offense put together a complete attack last night. This was also Homecoming. Maybe Coach wanted to reward them for playing so well and getting the job done. The win was against a team that was supposed to beat Cary by at least 11 pts. The Line stepped up HUGE last night. That is evident in how many yards that were gained on the ground. And if your running game is working without turnovers, and WITHOUT your starting running backs (out due to injury), there is no reason to put the ball in the air. Defense last night protected the scoreboard in more ways than one. And oh yeah, didn't your son play Thursday night?

Question...With a 34-0 lead into the 4th quarter and Middle Creek unable to move the ball or stop Cary, why didn't Cary's coach put in some back-up players? He kept his starting QB in the WHOLE game. I don't claim to be a football genius, but that looked like a really good time to let some of his back-up position players to get some snaps. Espically after I see that the starting QB only completed 2 passes.
