Kelly could be days away from making a decision

Oct 6, 2008

According to a published report by Scout.com, Ranvenscroft senior Ryan Kelly could announce where he is going to play college basketball as early as this week.

The 6-foot-10, 205-pound power forward just wrapped up an official visit to North Carolina this weekend where he met with head coach Roy Williams, played a pick-up game with the Tar Heel basketball players, and attended the football game against Connecticut on Saturday night.

Kelly narrowed his list to six schools over the summer after representing the United States in the FIBA America's Tournament in Argentina.

The visit to UNC wraps up his tour of those six schools.

On Aug. 30, Kelly visited Vanderbilt, the first visit of the year for Kelly. He followed that visit up on Sept. 6 when he traveled to Wake Forest, then visited Notre Dame on Sept. 13. On Sept. 20, Kelly visited Georgetown.

Kelly has also taken visits to Duke over the past several weeks. The Blue Devils were looking at Kelly early on, and after they let up on their recruiting, they decided to back after Kelly after his big summer in AAU and USA Basketball.

Scout.com's Dave Telep told InsideCarolina.com that a decision could come in the coming days, and he said there might be two people who know which way Kelly is leaning.

Kelly has said that he wants to make his decision before the start of the high school basketball season.

Ravenscroft will participate in the GlaxoSmithKline Holiday Invitational again this season, along with top recruits John Wall (Uncommitted), C.J. Leslie (N.C. State), Mason Plumlee (Duke), Lorenzo Brown (N.C. State) and Reggie Bullock (UNC). Other local prospects include E.J. Ross (Auburn) and Garrius Adams (Miami).

Kelly also received offers from Davidson, N.C. State, Stanford and Virginia, but he has ruled those schools out.
