WF-R rolls again, beating East Wake, 35-6

Sep 27, 2008

Wake Forest-Rolesville passed one more early-season test with flying colors as they dispatched of East Wake, 35-6. The Cougars were careful to not look ahead to next week's non-conference showdown with Southern Durham, which is now a surprising 0-2.

Wake Forest-Rolesville would score all the points it needed in the first quarter as the Cougars came out throwing in the first quarter and had two passing touchdowns from senior quarterback Tim Hartman to senior teammate and receiver Torrey White.

"Torrey, he just does what he does, and makes great plays," said Hartman.

Neither team could move the ball well in the second quarter as stalled drives marred by numerous penalties were the story for both sides. However, the Cougars would continue to pound the ball through the Warrior defense as sophomore James Harris had a short scamper into the endzone a few minutes before halftime to make the score 21-0.

Mother Nature would have her say during the halftime festivities as lightning extended the intermission to 45 minutes.

After the delay, Wake Forest-Rolesville continued to run the ball well, but would get on the board again thanks to its defense. As a part of junior linebacker Terrell Harstfield's phenomenal defensive, game he turned an errant East Wake pass into a 68-yard return for a touchdown. He also contributed seven tackles and a sack.

The Cougars added one more touchdown late in the third quarter to make it 35-0 going into the fourth quarter.

A tireless effort by East Wake running back Gus Goodson, who would finish with 85 yards rushing on 26 attempts, paid off near the end of the fourth quarter as quarterback Greg Jones threw a four-yard pass to get the Warriors on the board.

East Wake will be at home next entertaining Millbrook.

Wake Forest-Rolesville gets prepared for one of the toughest tests of the young season in traveling to Southern Durham.

"They’re so fast and so athletic,” Cougar head coach Earl Smith said. “we've been able to hang with them the last few years," "They've all been close games. We're looking forward to it."
