Green Hope needs defense, confidence on Friday

Aug 27, 2008

The Green Hope Falcons have never beaten the Jordan Falcons, and if they're going to do it this season, they're going to have to play defense and play with confidence.

Each time the two teams have played, Jordan has won by an average margin of almost 19-points, scoring an average of 31-points each time.

Green Hope's defense will have to stop Jordan on Friday night if they're going to win.

Against Wakefield last week, Green Hope allowed 34-points, but 27 of those points came in the second half. Wakefield's ability to score in the first half was severely limited by turnovers, but the large number of points may also be indicative of depth problems for Green Hope.

The offense had a decent game against Wakefield, especially with a sophomore quarterback with limited experience under center.

Green Hope had 286-yards through the air from quarterback Kameron Bryant, but he only managed one touchdown throw to senior wide receiver Matt Burke.

The experience at quarterback isn't the biggest question for Green Hope, though. The Falcons have to establish a running game to have a balanced offensive attack.

Green Hope rushed 37 times against Wakefield, and they only picked up 63-yards. Going into the season, Green Hope knew this would be an area of concern, as they lost a lot of talent in the backfield after last season.

Burke will likely be the favorite receiver against Jordan, but Bryce Palmer and Jake Trimble are also receivers that Bryant will utilize.

If Green Hope were able to knock off Jordan on Friday night, it would be a huge confidence boost for the program. The Falcons have struggled since 2004, posted a record of 5-29 in that time frame.
