Rivals.com releases a national poll each Monday featuring the top 100 high school football teams in the country. This week's poll features just one team from the state of North Carolina.
According to the poll, Trinity (Euless, TX) is the top team in the country. Trinity made a run to the Texas 5-A Division I state championship last season.
Charlotte Independence is ranked No. 87.
The next closest school to North Carolina is Byrnes (Duncan, SC). Byrnes' offense is led by wide receiver Ricco Sanders. Posting over 900 receiving yards and 13 scores, Sanders is listed as a four-star recruit by Rivals.com. Byrnes opens their season on Friday at North Gwinnett (GA).
The national poll is compiled by Dallas Jackson, the managing producer of RivalsHigh. According to the site, Jackson uses help from recruiting analyists and state site publishers.
In addition to the top 100 poll, Rivals.com publishes individual top 25 polls for different regions of the country. North Carolina falls in the Atlantic East region, and only one team from the Tar Heel State is mentioned.
Independence is the No. 13 team in the region, according to Rivals.com. The Patriots had a bye week last week, and will open up their season on Friday night at home against Olympic. The following Saturday, Independence will travel to Madison County (FL) in what will be their second straight year with an out-of-state game.
There are two teams from the state of South Carolina listed in the Atlantic East region's top 25. Byrnes is listed at No. 2, while South Pointe (Rock Hill, SC) is listed at No. 14.
