The Carolina Panthers along with the National Football League will continue two programs to support high school football in North Carolina.
Since 1997, the Carolina Panthers have honored coaches each week as the Coach of the Week. Members of the media, as well as school administrators, are allowed to nominate varsity football coaches in North and South Carolina to receive the award. The deadline to nominate a coach is Sept. 5.
The Panthers do not limit eligibility based on the league, size of the school, nor division.
Previous winners are not allowed to be nominated.
Every coach that wins the Coach of the Week award from the Panthers will receive a $1,000 donation to the school's athletic program. The money comes from the Carolina Panthers and the NFL. The winners will also be nominated on the field during the Dec. 14 Panthers game against the Denver Broncos.
During the presentation, the Coach of the Year award will be given out by the Panthers, along with an additional $2,000 donation to the school's athletic department.
The Carolina Panthers will also recognize high school football players throughout the season in North and South Carolina through a program called The Community Captain program. These players must demonstrate good character and leadership.
The criteria includes:
Ten winners will be announced throughout the season. These winners will get a Community Captain jersey, and will participate in a community event with current players on the Carolina Panthers team. The winners will also be recognized at the Dec. 14 game against the Denver Broncos.
Only high school football coaches, administrators, and members of the media may nominate players. The deadline to submit a nomination is Sept. 5.
