All 380-pounds of SER junior receiving college interest

Aug 10, 2008

Daniel McCullers is big. Actually, he's really big.

McCullers, a junior defensive tackle at Southeast Raleigh, is approaching a whopping 380-pounds, and yes, he is just a junior.McCullers is one of the biggest players in the state of North Carolina, and coach Daniel Finn says he's a unique player.

"He's not fat and blubber," Finn said, "He can really move."

McCullers, who wears No. 77, has received interest from major BCS schools including Wake Forest, N.C. State and South Carolina.

"This summer, the recruiter from South Carolina came up and said they really wanted him to come down for camp," Finn told High School OT, "They said he would have to be pretty bad not to get a scholarship offer."

McCullers couldn't make it down to Columbia the week of the Gamecocks' summer camp, but he did make it to N.C. State for a 2-hour session.

"N.C. State told him the same thing Wake Forest did, hes got to get his grades up," Finn said.

Finn said McCullers' main position is defensive tackle, but added that he plays nose guard on occasion, and that they may try him at offensive tackle some this season.

"He's strong as an ox," Finn exclaimed, "He's gotten stronger over the summer."

Finn added that McCullers is a quiet player, but that he is very coachable. "He's very, very quiet... He very rarely says anything on the field."

As a sophomore, McCullers received All-Conference honors in the Greater Neuse River Conference.

The Bulldogs will start their season on Aug. 22 at Wilmington New Hanover.
