Earlier this month, the NFHS Coach Education program passed a significant milestone when it surpassed 1 million course deliveries through www.nfhslearn.com. Since its launch in January 2007, nfhslearn.com has grown to offer 26 online courses aimed at educating coaches on a variety of topics, including sport-specific courses.
The free course – "Concussion in Sports: What You Need to Know" – accounts for more than half of the 1 million total, with 570,000 course deliveries. The site offers several other courses for free, including courses on the role of parents in sports, heat acclimatization and sportsmanship. The NFHS recently announced that its course "NCAA Eligibility Center Coaching Education" is now being offered free of charge.
"The free couses have been a great way to educate the masses and attract more people to the Web site," said Dan Schuster, NFHS Assistant Director of Coach Education.
Coaches in Massachusetts have taken the most free courses, with nearly 100,000 courses delivered. New Jersey, Florida, Pennsylvania and Virginia round out the top 5 for free courses.
