Fuquay-Varina High School has named its next athletic director.
James Mountford, the boys and girls soccer coach for the last seven seasons, has been selected as the athletic director, replacing Bruce Hemphill.
Mountford is a 1995 graduate of Fuquay-Varina and teaches sports marketing at the high school. In 2010, Mountford led the boys soccer team to a Tri-9 Conference championship and was named the state's coach of the year.
"I am truly honored and blessed to have the opportunity to lead the athletic program at Fuquay-Varina," Mountford said. "As a former Bengal student-athlete, I know firsthand how vital and important athletics can be in a student-athlete's life."
Mountford played soccer at Barton College. His first coaching opportunity came at Rocky Mount High School where he coached the boys and girls soccer teams for six seasons.
"I hope to be able to provide the wonderful coaching staff and students at Fuquay-Varina High School with the leadership needed to make their teams successful," said Mountford.
The fall sports season for N.C. High School Athletic Association member schools began on July 30.
