South Granville returns a lot of talent this season with eight returning starters on offense and nine returning starters on defense.
At 6-foot-4 and 195 pounds, senior running back Josh Bailey is a favorite to be the Carolina 12 Player of the Year this season. Last year, Bailey rushed for 1,784 yards and 21 touchdowns on 288 carries. Fullback Kenneth Walls ran 132 times for 818 yards and 12 touchdowns. The offensive line should be strong too, returning players like Jordan Harbison, Ryan Lawler, Cole Parrish, Micah Roberts and Andy Ferguson.
The Vikings will be solid on the defensive side of the ball as well. Defensive back Corey Lomena is back for his senior season after recording 72 tackles and five interceptions last year. Taz Strudwick, a 6-foot-3, 245-pound defensive lineman is also back after positing 88 tackles and four sacks.
Northwood will likely be another team that competes for the conference title this season. The Chargers return five offensive starters and eight defensive starters this season.
Linebacker Jourden Blackmon was an all-conference performer last season, posting a school record 183 tackles, 11 tackles for losses, four sacks and two fumble recoveries. Jay Williams was also an all-conference selection last season as a sophomore, posting 73 tackles and four fumble recoveries as a sophomore. Senior defensive back Parrish Morrow recorded seven interceptions.
Adam Leviner will return to the quarterback position this season for the Chargers. Last season, Leviner posted 99 tackles and seven interceptions as a defensive back. One of his top receivers will be Aumed Walker, a 6-foot all-conference player who caught 31 passes for 547 yards and six touchdowns. Senior Chris Smith was the team’s second leading receiver last year with 370 yards.
Carrboro will return a decent amount of experience this fall as well. The Jaguars have eight returning offensive starters and five returning defensive starters.
Running back Douglas Parrish returns this season for Carrboro after running for 1,182 yards and 16 touchdowns last season, and quarterback Alex McVeigh is back after passing fo 1,723 yards and 13 touchdowns.
It looks to be a three man race this season in the Carolina 12.
