A Hickory teacher and coach is facing multiple sex-related charges after an investigation sparked more than two months ago.
According to District Attorney Jay Gaither, 38-year-old Shawnacie Antoine Johnson, a teacher and basketball coach at Hickory High School, is facing at least five charges.
Johnson was arrested on Tuesday morning around 9:45 a.m. by Hickory Police.
According to police, officers were called by the officials with Hickory Public Schools after an allegation of a sexual nature made against Johnson in May by a current student.
During the investigation, police learned of other allegations between 2007 and 2009. Johnson was charged with four counts of Statutory Rape of a person under 15-years-old occurring in 2007 and 2008 along with another count of Sexual Activity with a Student by a Teacher in 2009.
Johnson was an employee of the Hickory Public School System at the time of the alleged offenses.
Johnson was placed under a $300,000 secured bond and was transported to the Catawba County Detention Center in Newton. He will be scheduled for Administrative Superior Court in Catawba County on October 1, 2012.
Hickory Police Department received continuous cooperation from the Hickory Public Schools, officials said, and will work very closely with District Attorney Gaither and his staff as this case continues.
