Another top high school football player in North Carolina is headed to the Southeastern Conference.
Hillside High School tight end Josh McNeil verbally committed to Alabama overnight. He visited Alabama on Thursday and Friday.
"I just knew Alabama was all alone at number one," McNeil said. "I just had to make sure it was where I wanted to be."
At 6-foot-5 and 230 pounds, McNeil is a 4-star prospect and the No. 4 tight end in the country, according to ESPN. Last season, McNeil caught 58 passes for 575 yards and six touchdowns.
Hillside compiled a record of 11-2, winning the PAC 6 4-A Conference title, and advancing to the third round of the N.C. High School Athletic Association 4-A state playoffs. The Hornets lost to eventual state champion Scotland County in the third round.
McNeil is the 17th commitment from the Class of 2013 for the Crimson Tide. The team also has a commitment from the No. 2 tight end in the country, O.J. Howard from Prattville (Ala.) Autauga Academy.
Last fall, McNeil committed to East Carolina but later rescinded his commitment.
