After trailing by double-digits much of the game, the East tried to make it interesting in the second half, cutting the lead to three points in the third quarter, but the West took control and cruised to an 82-65 win in the N.C. Coaches Association East-West All-Star Girls Basketball Game.
The East took a brief lead in the first quarter, but the West took a 22-17 lead into the second quarter behind nine points from Tori Cook (West Forsyth).
In the second quarter, the West took its first double-digit lead, but took a nine-point lead into halftime, up 40-31.
The East fought back in the third quarter, cutting the lead to five off a lay-up by Taylor Houston (Millbrook) and a 3-pointer by Katisha Hyman (Southside).
But the West wasn't phased, outscoring the East 25-16 in the fourth quarter to secure the easy victory.
Every player on the West squad scored in the game.
Paige Love (Wilkes Central) led the West with 15 points, earning her Most Valuable Player honors. Tori Cook (West Forsyth) added 11 points for the West, while Jordan Hiatt (Mountain Heritage) and Ashton Fleming (R.J. Reynolds) both scored 10 points.
The East was led by Alexus Cooper (Rocky Mount) with 16 points. Ciara Morris (South View) scored 14 points. Houston and Jordan Hill (New Bern) both scored seven points for the East.
