Triton High School announced Thursday that Ashley Ennis will take over the football program as the head coach.
Ennis replaces Joe McCullen, who was informed he would not be brought back to the program after retiring from teaching after last season. He had originally planned to come back as a part time teacher and football coach.
Beginning his high school coaching career at Princeton High School in 1999, Ennis moved to Triton in 2003 as the varsity offensive line coach. He was named the head junior varsity coach in 2005, leading the junior varsity teams to a 54-13 record since.
Last year, Ennis served as the associate head coach and offensive coordinator under McCullen. The Hawks posted a 10-2 overall record last season, winning the Eastern Carolina Conference title.
Triton returns 15 starters off of last year's team that averaged over 36 points per game, including the Eastern Carolina Conference Player of the Year – Dedrick Stacker.
