Scotland County, the defending 4-A football state champion, has a new head football coach.
The Scotland County Board of Education voted unanimously to approve the hire of Richard Bailey on Monday night. Bailey has spent the last 12 seasons at Jack Britt High School in Fayetteville.
While at Jack Britt, Bailey compiled a record of 119-44, including a trio of trips to the N.C. High School Athletic Association state championship.
Bailey replaces Chip Williams, who retired from coaching earlier this year. Williams has also been the coach at New Bern and Wakefield.
Williams went to Scotland County in 2008, replacing Mark Barnes who left to coach at Brevard High School. This past season the Fighting Scots won the N.C. High School Athletic Association 4-A state championship, finishing a perfect season.
