Rocky Mount assistant football coach Jason Battle has been selected to be the new head coach at Rocky Mount High School. Battle, a 1998 RMSH alum and three-sport athlete there, is the first current assistant to be promoted to the head position since George Kelley in 1983.
Battle is a North Carolina A&T University graduate. He takes over for Dickie Schock who resigned in February after three seasons in the position.
Battle will be leading the Gryphons to a spanking new $38 million campus on Bethlehem Rd, which will include a new stadium and field house. The Gryphons will be playing on campus for the first time in school history when the school opens in Aug.
