Panther Creek High School will need a new athletic director next year.
Todd Schuler said Thursday he will leave the school to become the athletic director at Cardinal Gibbons High School on July 1.
"Panther Creek is a very large, 4-A school. Over the last six years we've developed into a pretty competitive program locally and even on the state level in some sports, so it's not easy to leave behind," Schuler said.
Schuler came to Panther Creek in 2006 when the school opened as a teacher and soccer coach. He has been the athletic director at Panther Creek since 2008.
"My decision to leave had very little to do with Panther Creek," Schuler said. "It was much more about the opportunity I saw at Cardinal Gibbons. I think it will be a great fit for me."
Schuler went to a Catholic school similar to Cardinal Gibbons – Bishop Guertin in New Hampshire. He said the experience he had in high school played a big role in his decision to leave Panther Creek.
"Spending some time around Cardinal Gibbons reminds me a lot of my high school and that experience, and that was very positive," Schuler said.
Schuler replaces Dean Monroe who announced he was leaving Cardinal Gibbons for Saint Mary's.
"I've known Dean Monroe for a long time and I have a tremendous amount of respect for what they've done and what they've accomplished," said Schuler. "I'm not going to go in and change something for the sake of changing something, they do a lot of things right."
There are things Schuler hopes to add to the athletic program at Cardinal Gibbons in the form of streaming and social media.
There is no word on when Panther Creek will hire a replacement.
