Green Hope's Kristen Gaffney was named the NC Basketball Coaches Association Player of the Year this week.
Gaffney received 424 votes to run away with the award. The next closest vote-getter was Millbrook center Briana Day with 271 votes.
A Vanderbilt recruit, Gaffney helped Green Hope to the conference championship again this season and an appearance in the sectional championship of the NC High School Athletic Association's state playoffs.
Millbrook head coach Chris East was named the Coach of the Year with 111 votes after Millbrook won the 4-A state title. Jordan-Matthews coach Jeff Stutts was second in the voting with 80 votes.
