Middle Creek High School announced Mike Castellano as its next head football coach Friday.
Castellano will take over the program after previous head coach Sean Crocker left for Panther Creek.
Castellano spent nine years on the football coaching staff at Coastal Carolina University, working with the cornerbacks.
He has spent four years as a high school defensive coordinator, the last two seasons at Millbrook High School and the 1999-01 seasons at North Wilkes. During his two seasons at Millbrook, he also worked with the special teams, as he helped lead the team to a pair of state playoff appearances.
Castellano was a three-sport standout at Delaware Valley High School, playing football, baseball and basketball during his career.
Middle Creek compiled a 10-4 record last season, including a 7-1 mark in the Tri-9 4-A Conference. The Mustangs finished in a tie for the conference championship and advanced to the third round of the N.C. High School Athletic Association's 4-AA state playoffs.
