New Tar Heel head football coach Larry Fedora used Wednesday's rivalry basketball game with Duke to get some of the guys he is recruiting excited about attending UNC.
The Hillside High School duo, running back Khris Francis and defensive back Korrin Wiggins, were among the High School players in the stands.
"It was great the fans were hype," said Wiggins.
It was the end of a really big day for the high school juniors, Francis and Wiggins committed to North Carolina Wednesday afternoon. The moment was caught on a cell phone camera by Francis's mother and has become quite popular online as it has been viewed almost 10,000 times.
"I was just glad to see how he reacted cause I was in the headlock," said Francis about Fedora's reaction. "He was so excited. It was nice."
Wiggins and Francis are among the first to commit for the class of 2013, which will be Fedora's first full signing class since taking over at North Carolina.
"He kept telling me how it would be nice to keep guys from North Carolina playing together. We wanted to create this North Carolina dream team. He wanted me and Chris to start that and bring in other guys," said Wiggins.
Both juniors always had UNC on the short list, but they admit Fedora's enthusiasm swayed them to jump on board early and end the recruiting process.
"I think it's good," said Francis. "It will help with the football program. Just imagine trying to get hype before a game. It's gonna be nice."
And North Carolina football fans are hoping he's right.
